League City's History:
League City is on the Texas Gulf Coast twenty-five miles north of Galveston Island and twenty miles south of Houston.  It encompasses 52.3 sq miles, 1.1 sq miles of it being water.  There are 3 families that are considered the founding families of League City.  They were the Butler´s, Cowart´s, and Perkin´s.

The Cowart´s settled on a creek now known as Coward´s Creek.  The Perkin´s settled on a creek lined with Magnolia trees and named in Magnolia Bayou.  The Butler´s settled inland. The town proper´s first resident was George W. Butler who moved from Louisiana in 1873.  The area was first known as Butler´s Ranch or Clear Creek.  In the 1890´s J. C. League started acquiring the land and in 1896 changed the name to League City.

The town originally raised cattle, but turned to farming in the 1890´s.  This was when Clear Creek Development organized and sold lots to farmers.  The crops that were grown in this area were Satsuma oranges, cotton, corn, potatoes, sugarcane, cucumbers and strawberries.  They later experimented with grapefruit, figs and dates. In 1913 League City had a high school, pickling plant, two broom factories, a state bank and four churches, one being the Friends church.  League City also had a weekly paper called the League City News, improved roads were under construction and electric lighting was being proposed.  In 1946 the town became the center for railroad shops and a Humble Oil tank farm.  League City´s school district was established in 1906 and later merged with Clear Creek Independent School District.  This was a growing city and as the population raised the city incorporated land as far west as Friendswood.

League City is alive with opportunity, optimism and energy.  Its diverse community has a unique blend of high-tech aerospace and petrochemical companies, and features a quaint tree-lined historic commercial district.  The area is home to the third largest concentration of pleasure boats in the United States.  Residents are proud of the area's quality of life, suburban lifestyle, economic opportunities, low crime rate, schools and recreational amenities.
