Pearland's History:
Pearland is located north of Friendswood in between Houston and Galveston. It encompasses 39.4 sq miles of land and is located in both Harris and Brazoria Counties.
Pearland started out as a switching station for the railroad in 1882. In 1893 it was named Mark Belt when the post office was established. Later that same year it was renamed to Pearland for the abundance of native pear trees in the area. By 1898 Pearland had grown into a city with a population of 75 and twelve businesses. These businesses included two general stores, a grocer, two lumber companies, two hotels, a real estate agent, a hardware store, a blacksmith, a carpenter & a wagon maker.
The hurricane of the 1900´s came through destroying much of the city, but not killing anyone. The people were left in poverty and offers of a free ride out of town by the railroad were a much-appreciated opportunity by many. The people that chose to stay struggled for many years to rebuild the city.
Today´s Pearland is much the same, people looking forward to the future, but learning lessons from the past. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the Houston Metropolis. It is a close-knit community with family values close to the fourth largest city in the US. How can you get much better than that!!?
Come see Pearland and call it home!
